DS Automobiles unveiled the redesigned DS 3 with considerable mechanical and cosmetic improvements a few months ago. The DS 3 Crossback (after the DS 7 Crossback) was the second standalone model from the Stellantis Group's Parisian premium brand in 2019. The DS 3, which now has a more concise moniker, benefits from a more powerful electric motor with 115 kW (rather than the previous 100 kW) or 156 hp and a range of up to 404 kilometers, particularly in the DS 3 E-Tense electric car. The premium B-design SUV includes a more prominent grille with new DS wings, DS LED Matrix Vision headlamps, daytime running lights, two new body colors, Diva Red and Silk Gray, Android Auto, and a new reverse camera.
The new DS 3 E-Tense electric car has a fresh appearance. The most noticeable changes are to the front end: the radiator grille has grown broader and now comes with diamond-shaped chrome inserts or a gloss black front. The DS Wings have also been updated to integrate the grille and headlights better.
The new LED headlights are standard across the board and have a more dynamic appearance, with three functional modules highlighted by satin chrome. Optional DS Matrix LED Vision headlights with intelligent management and automatic high beam provide maximum comfort and safety. The new daytime running lights are made up of two LED lines that are positioned vertically on either side of the front end, creating a distinct, spreading light character. The spoiler and grille have been changed to improve the aerodynamic features of the vehicle.
The finish of the emblems on the grille and bonnet, available in different colors depending on the model and completed with a "Clous de Paris" guilloche pattern, demonstrates the attention to detail.
With the DS 3's iconic shark fin, recessed door handles, and invisible exterior window seals, the silhouette retains its unmistakable identity. By removing the suffix "Crossback," the writing becomes the brand name "DS Automobiles," as in the DS 7, which is now enthroned between the new taillights on a matt black background in 3D. As before, the wheels are also more efficient and are available in 17 and 18-inch alloys.
The new DS 3 E-Tense electric car is available in seven different body colors. The hue diva red is unique to the new DS 3. Silk Gray, Crystal Gray, Platinium Gray, Artense Gray, Perla Nera Black, and Polar White round out the palette. A two-tone paint treatment with a roof in Perla Nera Black or the new Karat Gray is available.
The new DS 3 draws influence from Parisian luxury skills to create an exquisite ambiance. The materials were chosen with great care and create a finish that is distinguished by excellence, creativity, and sustainability. The nappa leather upholstery with the art leather finish, Alcantara, and elements like the ornate pearl stitching or the "Clous de Paris" guilloche pattern, in particular, distinguish the DS Automobiles designs.
The driver's posture has changed with a revised steering wheel that integrates driver aid controls and infotainment buttons with paddle shifters for automatic transmission. A new 10.3-inch high-resolution central screen with the new DS Iris infotainment system is now standard.
The seats of the new DS 3 E-Tense electric car are distinguished by design and technology that serve optics and well-being. They provide robust lateral support and are covered with a novel, high-density foam that provides optimal seating comfort. The front seats can be heated and adjusted electrically, including a massaging function.
The highest trim level The interior of the Opéra is black nappa leather, with a watch strap design that mixes creative luxury with character and contemporary.
Rivoli, the second-highest specification line, has new basalt black-grained leather seats with ornamental stitching. Upholstery in Pebble Gray is also available, as is a combination of Nappa leather and fabric.
The seats, dashboard strips, and door panels in the Performance Line and Performance Line Plus equipment lines are trimmed with Alcantara. The Performance Line + additionally comes with a center armrest, floor mats, and illumination for the sun visors and footwells.
The Bastille trim line has been fully redesigned, and new Peruzzi fabric seats in Silicon Gray with scale-effect graining on the dashboard and door panels are now available. As an option, new-grained leather seats in Basalt Black are offered.
To improve performance and range, the new DS 3 E-Tense features a wholly new electric motor (manufactured in Trémery-Metz), a reduction gear (produced in Valenciennes), and a new battery (made in Poissy).
The new hybrid synchronous motor (HSM) leverages Formula E know-how to attain high efficiency. At 400 volts, it produces 115 kW (156 hp) and 260 Nm of torque. The new 54kWh battery incorporates liquid circulation temperature regulation and a heat pump, resulting in faster charging, a higher range, and a longer lifespan. The typical onboard charger delivers 100 kW of DC power (10 to 80% charge in 30 minutes) and 11 kW of AC power (0 to 100% in 5 hours and 45 minutes).
The architecture has been optimized as well. The battery is relatively compact because of the increased energy density and is located under the front and rear seats and the central tunnel. Handling and driving positions are equal to other drives, and shock resistance exceeds even the most stringent specifications.
The new DS 3 E-Tense electric car offers a combined WLTP cycle range of up to 404 kilometers and a city traffic range of more than 500 kilometers. This is due to the effectiveness of the electric motor, it's capacity to regenerate energy, extra devices such as the heat pump, thermal preconditioning, and the new LED headlamps, as well as the front end and wheel aerodynamic optimization. Furthermore, the ground clearance on vehicles with Tall & Narrow 17 and 18-inch wheels has been lowered by 10 mm.
In addition to the fully electric engine, two petrol drives are available: PureTech 100 (74 kW) with manual 6-speed gearbox [fuel consumption (combined) 6.2-5.3 l/100 km; CO 2 emissions (combined) 140-120 g/km] and PureTech 200 (74 kW) with an automatic 6-speed gearbox and PureTech 130 (96 kW) with 8-speed automatic transmission [combined fuel economy 6.2-5.8 l/100 km; CO 2 emissions 147-130 g/km]. The engine lineup is completed by a diesel BlueHDi 130 (96 kW) with an 8-speed automatic transmission [Fuel economy (combined) 5.4-4.8 l/100 km; CO 2 emissions (combined) 142-126 g/km]. Gasoline and diesel engines fulfill the most recent pollution regulations.
