Jeep will unveil its first battery-electric car in the first quarter of 2023, but we do not have to speculate what it will look like because the exterior of the future model has been unveiled in its totality. Stellantis, the corporation that owns Jeep, hinted at the future Jeep BEV during a recent presentation in which it detailed its aspirations to achieve carbon neutrality by 2038.
There is little information about the upcoming Jeep electric SUV, other than its design and when Stellantis anticipates it to launch. However, we instantly notice the split light clusters on its front end, with the daytime running lights on top and the genuine headlights below. The grille keeps the iconic Jeep vertical slat style but is entirely enclosed and displays a prominent E emblem indicating the vehicle is an electric vehicle.
The electric SUV's rear end is reminiscent of a fast hatchback with broad, bulging sides and small inset tail lamps. We have no idea what it will be named, as there is no name on the back. Additionally, we assume that this car will include a dual-motor four-wheel-drive system. While this would require modifying the chassis, Jeep electric SUV would be extremely weird to provide this vehicle with a single front motor.
The 2023 Jeep electric SUV will be built on the same platform as previous Stellantis group electric crossovers, including the future Alfa Romeo Brennero and the next-generation Peugeot e-2008. The platform is believed to be the STLA Small, an improved version of the Peugeot EMP1 platform that currently underlies cars such as the DS3 Crossback, Peugeot e-208, and Opel Corsa e.
However, no existing model based on this platform features dual-motor all-wheel drive, implying that the STLA Small platform will evolve to support this and that the Jeep model will not be the only one to do so. Expect other forthcoming models based on the same EMP1 platform to have all-wheel drive as well, though it is unlikely to be standard.
The 2023 Jeep electric SUV is intended to be constructed in Europe with other Stellantis-based versions.
Update 09/2022: Now I have a name for this electric 4x4 vehicle: Jeep Avenger.
