Peugeot is one of the oldest car brands in the world, but it has been absent from the U.S. market since 1991. However, that may change soon, as the French automaker is planning to return to North America by 2023 with a lineup of electrified vehicles. One of them could be the Peugeot e-308, a compact hatchback that rivals the likes of the Volkswagen Golf and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
The Peugeot e-308 is based on the same platform as the gasoline-powered 308, which was redesigned for 2022. The electric version was unveiled in September 2021 at the Munich Motor Show, and it is now available for online ordering in Europe. The Peugeot e-308 is offered in a limited-edition trim called First Edition, which features exclusive styling and equipment.
What makes the Peugeot e-308 First Edition special?
The Peugeot e-308 First Edition is distinguished by its Vertigo Blue exterior color, which contrasts with the black roof and mirrors. It also has a specific grille with a body-colored insert, as well as 18-inch alloy wheels with a two-tone finish. The First Edition badge is displayed on the front fenders and the tailgate.
Inside, the Peugeot e-308 First Edition boasts a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It also comes with a Focal Premium Hi-Fi sound system, a head-up display, a wireless smartphone charger, and a panoramic sunroof.
The Peugeot e-308 First Edition is equipped with a range of advanced driver-assist systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, and a 360-degree camera. It also has a thermal comfort pack, which includes heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a heat pump that optimizes battery efficiency.
How does the Peugeot e-308 perform?
The Peugeot e-308 is powered by a single electric motor that produces 134 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. It drives the front wheels through a single-speed transmission. The electric hatchback can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 9.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 93 mph.
The electric motor draws power from a 50-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack that is located under the floor. The battery pack has an estimated range of 217 miles on the WLTP cycle, which is comparable to other compact EVs like the Nissan Leaf and the Kia Soul EV. The battery pack can be recharged from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes using a 100-kW DC fast charger or in 7 hours and 30 minutes using a 7.4-kW AC wall box.
The Peugeot e-308 also features three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. Eco mode limits the power output and optimizes the energy consumption for maximum range. Normal mode provides balanced performance and comfort for everyday driving. Sport mode increases responsiveness and agility for more fun behind the wheel.
