During the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022, Polestar revealed the first model of the Polestar 5. The Polestar 5 is an electric sports car with four doors and high performance. It is based on the Polestar Precept concept car, which was first shown in 2020.
Pete Allan, in charge of Polestar's research and development in England, says, "Polestar 5 looks like an excellent four-door GT and a real Polestar car. The platform brings lightweight, high-rigidity sports car chassis technology to mass production by combining low-volume performance features with modern technological advances.
The team in England has used the chance to work on a new mechanical platform to design and build a unique aluminum chassis, a vital part of the vehicle's dynamic signature. This is done so that driving the car is as appealing as the way it looks.
In Sweden, work is being done on a new top-of-the-line electric driveline. The electric car will run better with an 800-volt architecture and a new electric motor in the back. When combined with a high-performance electric motor at the front, the two-engine driveline is supposed to produce 650 kW (884 hp) and 900 Nm.
"The new driveline we are working on will set a new brand standard for our high-performance cars," says Jorg Brandscheid, CTO and Head of R&D at Polestar. You get a great car when you put together strong electric motor technology and improvements in lightweight platform technology.
During an event in the "First Glance" group, Polestar 5 will drive up the famous Goodwood hill twice a day. The Polestar 5 electric car is set to come out in 2024. It is the third of three new electric vehicles that Polestar plans to release over the next three years. The first two are electric SUVs called Polestar 3 and Polestar 4.
Thomas Ingenlath, the CEO of Polestar, says, "Polestar 5 is a project that will make or break the company. Polestar's future can be seen in its innovative design and high-tech construction. We have a lot of great people working for us, which lets us make iconic electric cars.
