Polestar has confirmed plans to begin production of the O2 electric roadster concept. The Polestar 6 - a high-performance electric sports car - will be on sale in 2026. From August 16, 2022, interested parties in all Polestar markets can reserve a time slot to manufacture the car on polestar.com.
"We chose to put this superb electric sports car into production due to the enormous response from customers and the media, and I'm thrilled to make this a reality," says Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath. "With the roof down, the Polestar 6 is a perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air."
The Polestar O2, which debuted in Los Angeles in March, is an electric roadster concept that expands on the Polestar Precept's design, technology, and sustainability goals. It depicts the company's future sports car ambition.
Polestar's bonded aluminum platform will be used to construct the hard-top convertible. It has an in-house developed high-performance 800-volt electrical architecture, which has previously been proven for the Polestar 5. This comprises a dual-motor drivetrain with up to 650 kW (884 horsepower) and 900 Nm of torque, a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 250 km/h.
Five hundred numbered pieces of a unique Polestar 6 'LA Concept' version are planned to be made to commemorate the debut. These will sport the original Polestar O2 concept's distinctive 'Sky' blue bodywork, colorful leather interior, and unique 21-inch wheels.
The manufacturing announcement coincides with the company's participation in the Monterey Car Week in California. More technical data and specs will be released as the production vehicle progresses until its projected introduction in 2026.
