In search of solving one of the most outstanding problems of electric cars, the American startup Our Next Energy (ONE) has developed a battery that increases the autonomy of the electric car to 1,200 km. It is a system that combines two batteries, one for day-to-day use and the other for long-distance travel. As a result, ONE gives everything you need to exceed 1,200 km of autonomy between charges.
The battery designed for day to day has been named Aries and is designed to withstand continuous charges and discharges other than thermal variations. The battery is lithium ferrophosphate and is nickel and cobalt-free. Meanwhile, the second battery, Gemini, is in the research phase, being designed for slower loads. Finally, of course, it can supply power to the autonomy above.
"I have been using batteries for 30 years, and I do not like things that are not supported by real data. We have shown that we can do what we propose. The next step is to do it methodically," says Our Next Energy CEO and founder Mujeeb Ijaz.
"This hybrid battery relies on two types of chemistries. The first battery is designed for daily use due to its great durability, and the second battery is for longer trips with a higher density. We believe that this system can double the autonomy of an electric car, and this is what differentiates us from the rest of the market", he explained to Automotive News.
"It is an important sponsor that can secure long-term capital for us," Mujeeb Ijaz concluded about the companies that have supported the project. And it is that they have managed to raise 25 million dollars from Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Bill Gates' venture capital fund, with the support of Jeff Bezos, among others. It seems to me like all the rich people ant a piece of this 'pie'.
