Dacia Sandero Goes Electric: A Budget-Friendly Choice for Eco-Conscious Drivers

Dacia Sandero

The Dacia Sandero is one of the most affordable cars in Europe, offering a spacious interior, a comfortable ride, and a reliable performance for a low price. But what if you want to save even more money on fuel and reduce your carbon footprint? Well, you might be in luck because Dacia plans to release an electric version of the Sandero in five years.

According to a report by Electrive.com, Dacia's parent company Renault has confirmed that it is working on an electric platform for its low-cost brand, which will be used to produce an electric Sandero by 2027. The platform will be based on the CMF-B architecture that underpins the current Sandero but with modifications to accommodate an electric powertrain.

The Dacia Sandero electric car is expected to have a range of around 200 km (124 miles) on a single charge, which is enough for most urban and suburban drivers. It will also benefit from the same features and equipment that make the Sandero a popular choice among value-conscious customers, such as LED headlights, a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and various safety systems.

The best part is that the electric Sandero will not break the bank. Dacia is known for its low prices, and the electric Sandero will be no exception. According to Autocar, Dacia's CEO Denis Le Vot has said that the Dacia Sandero electric car will cost around 15,000 euros ($17,250) in Europe, which is significantly cheaper than most electric cars on the market. For comparison, the Renault Zoe, which is also based on the CMF-B platform, costs around 23,000 euros ($26,450) in Europe.

The Dacia Sandero electric car will also be cheaper to run than a conventional petrol or diesel car, thanks to lower maintenance costs and tax incentives. Moreover, it will help drivers reduce their environmental impact by emitting zero tailpipe emissions and using less energy than a combustion engine.

The Dacia Sandero electric car is part of Dacia's strategy to electrify its lineup and meet the stricter emission regulations in Europe. The brand has already launched its first electric model, the Dacia Spring, which is a small crossover with a range of 225 km (140 miles) and a price tag of 12,000 euros ($13,800). The Spring is aimed at urban customers who want a practical and affordable electric car for city driving.

On the other hand, the Dacia Sandero is designed for customers who need more space and versatility than the Dacia Spring can offer. The Sandero is a compact hatchback that can seat five people and has a boot capacity of 328 liters (11.6 cubic feet), which can be expanded to 1,108 liters (39.1 cubic feet) by folding the rear seats. The Sandero also has a higher ground clearance than the Spring, which makes it more suitable for rough roads and rural areas.

The current generation of the Sandero was launched in 2020 and received positive reviews from critics and customers alike. Car Magazine praised the Sandero for its "impressive refinement," "decent handling," and "generous equipment." The magazine also noted that the Sandero offers "a lot of car for not much money," which is Dacia's main selling point.

The electric Sandero will build on these strengths and add an eco-friendly twist to them. It will appeal to customers who want a cheap and cheerful car that can also help them save money on fuel and protect the environment. It will also give Dacia a competitive edge in the growing market of electric cars, where most rivals are more expensive and less spacious.

The electric Sandero is still in development, and details are scarce at this point. However, based on what we know so far, it seems like a promising project that could make electric mobility more accessible and attractive for many drivers. If you are looking for a budget-friendly electric car that can meet your everyday needs without compromising comfort or quality, you might want to watch the Dacia Sandero.
